Learn about ambient pads - the "secret" way to make your worship team sound huge, even if you're not tech-savvy.
A Tale Of Two Worship Leaders
On an average Sunday morning, two people in different cities arrived at their churches to lead worship.
Both people were very much alike: they were both great leaders, personable, musically strong, and spiritually sound. Both led worship at healthy churches. And both led worship in very much the same manner.
But there was a difference.
The first worship team sounded "small", hollow, and average. They had lots of "dead-space" between songs. Transitions did not go well. There was lots of potential for the congregation to be distracted.
The second worship team, however, sounded full, rich, and HUGE. Dead-space between songs didn't exist. Transitions were seamless and flawless. The congregation was engaged.
The first worship leader led faithfully, but left the worship service with deflated confidence and realized he had focused more on details than on engaging in worship.
The second worship leader led faithfully, and left the worship service feeling confident - realizing he had the freedom to focus on worship instead of details.
What Made The Difference
What was the difference between the flat-sounding worship service and the full, rich, seamless service? What gave that second service "that special something"?
It wasn't team members... both leaders had similar team size & skill level. It wasn't the sound system... both had similar equipment. It wasn't song choice... both used similar material. It wasn't that one leader wanted to sound "flat"... both were striving for excellence.
The difference lies in a "secret" tool that creates an instant impact on how your worship team sounds and is very simple to use.
It Took Me A Long Time To Finally Learn “The Secret”
My name’s Mike Graff, the founder of Coresound.
As you'll soon see, we at Coresound have worked tirelessly to best fix your problem of hollow worship-sound that kills your confidence as a worship leader and steals your focus from what's most important.
I've been in worship ministry for over two decades with congregations of dozens of people to thousands of people.
Over the years, I've led services that felt just like the first worship team in the story above: "small", hollow, and below average. To make matters worse, it was a long time before I ever learned there was a tool to fix these woes!
I finally discovered this tool a few years ago. Though I loved the concept, I wasn't thrilled with the quality of what was out there. After lots of empty searching for better quality, I decided instead to create the best version of this tool to help worship teams, no matter how small, achieve big results. And the first time I used them in a worship service, I was blown away at how well they worked!
And I'm not alone - countless worship leaders around the world are adding this tool to their worship ministry and loving the results. But more on that later.
The Truth About How To Transform Your Worship Sound
You've probably heard these myths about adding different "tools" or "toys" to your worship ministry - perhaps you believe these myths yourself. Guess what? I used to believe them, too!
Myth #1: Worship tools aren't one-size-fits-all. It might work at your church, but not mine.
The key is that this tool is flexible. It not only makes small teams sound bigger & polished, but also creates "atmosphere" for solo worship leaders, and even provides foundational ambience for large teams as well. No matter what style, song, key, tempo, or arrangement, this tool is flexible enough to fit them all.
Myth #2: I can't use these tools because I'm not a "techie", and neither is anyone on my team.
This is a common myth, but the truth is simple. You actually don't need any additional equipment, software, or knowledge to add this tool to your ministry and transform how your worship team sounds! You already have all the gear you need, and you already know how to use it, too (more on that later).
Myth #3: I don't need to add a "tool" to my worship ministry... I just need to add more people.
While adding team members is a great thing, sometimes there aren't any more people to add! And what about when a team member calls in sick or moves out of town? Adding certain tools to your worship ministry can help alleviate the pain of volunteer woes.
The Big Reveal
OK, I've hinted at this "secret" tool that worship leaders are using to transform how their worship sounds.
The funny thing is, once you find out what it is, it doesn't feel very "mysterious" anymore. But what it does for your worship ministry is transformational.
The "secret" set of tools that instantly make your worship sound full, rich, and huge are...
PADS.
That's right! Pads will fill your sound, kill dead-space, create smooth transitions, give you confidence, and free you to focus on worship.
WHAT ON EARTH ARE "PADS"?
Simply put, pads are that ambient, atmospheric sound you hear underneath the rest of the band on your favorite worship album. Maybe you've heard them called "worship pads", "ambient pads", or "pad loops".
Pads are created by keyboards, guitars, and other instruments. They instantly make the rest of your music sound deep, full, and ambient. Pads fill your sound, enhancethe mood, and kill dead-space.
Another way to think about it: Pads make it sound like you have someone on your team playing pads (in the right key!) all the time. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have that "someone" on your worship team? It’d be a game changer!
Pads work great with both fast and slow songs, loud and quiet songs, triumphant and intimate songs, acoustic groups and full bands.
Not only do pads fill the sound of your worship songs, but they also can add ambience to times of prayer, Scripture reading, transitioning in & out of sermons, and much much more.
Here's a short video to give you an idea of what pads sound like and how they transform your worship sound:
OK, I Get What Pads Do, But How Do I Use Them? How Hard Is It?
Here’s the good news - it is super easy to add pads to your Sunday setup. Because you don’t need an extra keyboardist, guitarist, or string ensemble. All you need is your phone. Seriously. All you need is your phone, tablet, laptop, or whatever device you love using!
The reason you don’t need any more gear is because pads are not a time-consuming piece of software... and they're not a complicated, expensive piece of equipment.
Pads are high-quality audio files, just like the songs you download from online music stores. If you've ever downloaded a song or album to your device, you are ready to use pads in your worship service! All you do is play the pads in your favorite music player on your device.
(There's even a special Pads app that's been built that makes it even easier to add pads to your worship service... but more on that later!)
There are other sophisticated ways to add pads to your worship setup, too (with software like Ableton Live, apps like Multitracks.com’s Playback, or presentation software like ProPresenter). But do you need a sophisticated setup to use pads? Not at all.
Adding pads to your worship ministry is as easy as 1-2-3. You already have the device you need to add pads to your worship setup!
But Wouldn’t A Constant Pad-Sound Make Everything Else Sound Off-Key And “Weird”?
They actually do the opposite! Pads blend the rest of your instruments together and make them sound bigger, fuller, and richer.
These pads are expertly-designed to provide texture while you play any chord at any tempo in the key you’ve chosen. For 99% of the popular worship songs out there, these pads will work perfectly!
DO I NEED A SPECIFIC SONG ARRANGEMENT TO PLAY ALONG WITH PADS?
Pads are not bound to a specific tempo or song arrangement. Which means you can play ANY song in ANY arrangement at ANY tempo with pads! The sky’s the limit!
You don’t need to adapt your song to work with pads. These pads will adapt to work with YOU.
When you download pads as WAV audio files, they look very similar to a music album. Instead of 12 songs on a recording artist's album, each pad has a 10-minute file for all 12 major keys.
If you want to do a song in the key of E and use a pad, all you do is click on the audio file named “E”.. If you want a pad in the key of G for another song, click on the G track. You can use any arrangement or tempo for your song. It’s as simple as that!
How Do Pads Go Into Our Sound System?
This part is actually very simple. Here’s a list of all you need to use pads in your worship team’s setup:
Your device, with pads downloaded to it
A 1/8”-to-1/4" audio cable
A direct box (just like what you use for your guitar or keyboard)
A microphone cable
One extra channel on your sound system's mixer for pads
Once you’ve put the pads on your device into your music app, connect your device and the direct box using the audio cable. Then plug the direct box into your mixer with the microphone cable, and VIOLA! You've added pads to your worship team's sound!
You Aren’t The Only People Who Create Pads. I’ve Seen Others. Why Should I Choose Yours?
As a worship leader, once I realized pads were a great fix for many of my worship ministry woes, I looked at all the available pads out there and bought several of them. Though I loved the concept of using pads to fill our worship team's sound, I wasn't completely satisfied with how the pads I bought sounded.
Some pads made our lead instruments sound muddy. Some pads had melodies that drew too much attention to themselves (and away from worship!). And some pads were just too, well, boring (which can also be distracting!).
So Coresound set out to accomplish a simple goal: To create a diverse collection of top-quality pads that would add so much value to your worship ministry that you would consider our pads to be one of the best worship investments you’ve ever made.
So the process began.
After months in the studio, working with great gear and fine-tuning each pad & key to perfection (that's geek-talk for "We used a lot of stuff to make your pads sound great!), we accomplished what we set out to do.
You need pads that support and strengthen your mix, not muddy it.
We have surgically EQ'd each pad to sound great where it's supposed to, and to also get out of the waywhere it's supposed to! These pads won't conflict with your lead instrument. They work around what you're already playing!
You need pads that blend with your worship team, not pads that draw attention to themselves.
Pads shouldn't be the focus of musical attention... they should focus your attention on the other instruments, making them sound even better.
You need pads that don't sound boring.
An excellent simple pad is great, but if it's too simple, it can be monotonous and be perceived as louder than it actually is!
What Are Other Worship Leaders Saying About Coresound Pads?
"I'd been looking for pads to add to our worship band that were clean, simple, and quality, and wasn't finding them. I even tried creating my own pads! But Coresound has put in a ton of time and effort to make these pads as high-quality as possible... and it makes all the difference.
Using these pads helps me easily create atmospheric transitions without stressing me or my musicians out. They give me the freedom to not worry about dead space.
These are a high-quality, well crafted addition to my worship setup and enable me to put together clean, smooth, consistent sets with incredible ease!"
Nate Sheppard | Worship/Youth Director, Pine Grove Church
"These pads stand out from others because they sound SO GOOD. They rock in a full band setting, and add so much to an acoustic set. Highly recommended!"
Brady Lee | Worship Pastor, Spring Lake Church
"I LOVE these pads!!! I had been using pads from other sitesthat have got me by... but I feel like I have gone from driving a '74 Beetle to a Porsche!"
Nathan Mark Champneys | Pastor & Singer-Songwriter, Elim Free Church
So How Many Different Pads Are There? How Many Do I Need?
We have several 4-pad collections as well as single pads with multiple stems to give you full creative control. All in all, there are dozen and dozens of pad sounds!
Why so many? We actually didn't set a specific number of pad sounds while creating them. We came to the table with dozens of great ideas, and after a lot of testing, decided on the pads that were the best of the best.
How many pads you need is up to you. You can get started with just a few pads. We recommend getting all of them to give you ultimate creative flexibility and find the perfect fit for any moment of your worship service.
Our pads range from warm to bright, subtle to distinct, and droning to melodic.
